Japan Railways Group (JR Group) has announced that the popular Japan Rail Pass will be sold in Japan on a Trial Basis. The sales period will commence on March 8, 2017 and run through to March 31, 2018. The pass is about 10% more expensive than purchasing overseas from companies such as ACP Rail. For example, a 7 day JR Rail Adult Trial pass is 33,000 yen compared to the normal price of 29,110 yen when purchased abroad.
The usage period of the JR passes that are purchased in Japan will be as follows:
- 7 day PASS available March 8, 2017 ‒April 6, 2018
- 14 day PASS availMarch 8, 2017 ‒April 13, 2018
- 21 day PASS March 8, 2017 ‒April 20, 2018

The JR Pass can be purchased for tourists who visit Japan from abroad under the entry status of “Temporary Visitor” (*) Tourists and have a passport, issued by a country other than Japan. Both regular cars and green cars will be on sale for 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days.
You can purchase the JR Rail Pass on Trial at the following stations: Sapporo, Sendai, Niigata, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Hakata, New-Chitose Airport, Narita Airport Terminal 1, Narita Airport Terminal 2-3, Haneda Airport International Terminal, and Kansai Airport.
